Statement of Diana Egozcue and Marj Signer, Co-Chairs of the Virginia NOW PAC
July 22, 2013 – The non-partisan Virginia National Organization for Women PAC announces its endorsement of state Senator Ralph Northam for Virginia’s next Lt. Governor.
Senator Northam is a champion for the women and families of Virginia and we support him because he has a proven record on the values that are critically important to the women and families of Virginia, including access to health care, equal opportunity, and a safe and clean environment. Senator Northam understands the need to protect women’s health and will continue to fight to keep politics out of the health care decisions of women.
Senator Northam has the stature we expect of a leader of our General Assembly. He has fought the extremism that has plagued the General Assembly and brought a reasonable, common sense approach to governing that we need in the closely divided Senate. As a senator, Northam led the fight against the intrusive ultrasound mandate and stood up to the TRAP regulations imposed by Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, which were designed to close women’s health centers, and has brought his medical expertise to other issues related to health care. His commitment to universal pre-kindergarten and early childhood education is especially important to the families of Virginia.
Ralph Northam will be a Lt. Governor that women in Virginia can count on and we are proud to stand with him and to work with our statewide membership for his election.
The Virginia NOW PAC was established in 1978 and endorses candidates at the state and local level who support our positions on a wide range of social justice issues affecting women and families. Virginia NOW is a membership organization with chapters in Alexandria, Arlington, the Vienna-McLean area, Fairfax County, Charlottesville, Richmond, Montgomery County, Rockbridge County, and Williamsburg.
